Sparking vocations, from school age

The Brevet d'Initiation Aéronautique opens the world of aviation to secondary school pupils. For some, it is the start of a calling that lasts a lifetime.

What is the BIA?

A national certificate for discovering aviation

Open to secondary school pupils, the Brevet d'Initiation Aéronautique offers a first, rounded approach to aviation — its history, the principles of flight, meteorology, navigation. Every year we guide young people from the Gironde through it, not least on dedicated days such as “Aviation… why not me?”.

How it works

From discovery to the exam

01

Aviation knowledge

The history of flight, aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation: lessons are run with the school, usually across the academic year.

02

A day at the airfield

Nothing replaces a visit to Yvrac. Pupils meet our instructors and see the fleet up close, between theory lessons.

03

The national exam

A written exam, run by the national education system, confirms what has been learned over the year.

04

A discovery flight

Many pupils round it off with a discovery flight over Bordeaux — and that is often where the calling takes hold.

Is your school thinking of offering the BIA?

We are glad to work with teachers and school teams to set up a BIA partnership, from the first conversation through to the end-of-year flight.
